Les the DJ

Originally from Manila, Philippines, Les is a DJ and community organizer based in Washington, D.C. Their work focuses on cultural preservation and community building.

Les started OPM Sundays with Joel Quizon and Mark Anthony Enriquez, an archival project celebrating Filipino musical heritage, and is currently collaborating with archivist Ashley Dequilla on OPM+Home Movies, a series pairing 16mm Filipino American home movies with an all-vinyl Original Pilipino Music soundtrack. They also organize Chinatown Funk Express, a party showcasing dance music from across the Asian diaspora, and are part of the weekly show Rotations on WFMU’s Rock’N’Soul radio. Les recently opened the pop-up record shop Buena Suerte with Martín Miguel.

Les is the co-founder of SAMASAMA, whose mission is to honor ancestral and Indigenous roots, push creative boundaries, and explore the multicultural identities of current and future generations. They also co-founded Sampaguita Rock Camp, a program supporting Filipino American youth in the Bay Area as they develop their creative voices and learn the power of collaboration through music. Martín Miguel
Martín Miguel is a staple in Washington, DCs dance music scene; known for curating house, disco, jazz-funk and afrolatin sounds for over decade through various endeavors, including a nearly decade-long residency at the legendary (and former) Eighteenth Street Lounge.

Born in Lima, Peru, and raised in DC. Martín was instilled with a sensibility for international dance rhythms through his multi-cultural upbringing. Through his many projects and pursuits, MM has earned a reputation as a DJ with deep consideration for culture and community, and of course deep crates.

His record labels, Better Listen Records and Real Feel Records, garnered international acclaim for elevating underground upstarts and producing dancefloor sure-shots. Additionally, Martín organizes Extended Play, a celebrated house and disco series boasting a custom soundsystem, a fervent, community following, and a peerless list of guest DJs. In the vein of a true renaissance man, Martín is also a scholar and advocate for public policy related to art, music and nightlife.
