In homage to experimental filmmaker Thom Anderson’s 2003 masterpiece found footage opus, Los Angeles Plays Itself, this screening program shares audiovisual works from the Smithsonian about the Smithsonian recently digitized by SI staff members of the AudioVisual Archivists’s Institutional Leadership (AVAIL).

Delving into the propagandistic aspect of SI-produced media is a fascinating historical consideration not only about how the Institution viewed and presented itself, but also a fantastic foray across media formats and means of production.

This compilation program of audiovisual ephemera, digitized videotapes, and motion picture film clips from, by, and about the United States’s National Museum is a special one-night only gathering for audiovisual archivists and federal nerds, alike.
