One of the most influential Brazilian filmmakers and  icon of Cinema Novo – Glauber Rocha’s debut film shot in Bahia, tells the tragic tale of a man who returns to his home fishing village to try and free people from the mystical Candomblé religion, which he considers a factor of political and social oppression.
