CISPES DC Presents: Salvi Cinema

Join The Committee in Solidarity with the People of El Salvador, DC Chapter, for Salvi Cinema, a special showcase of Bajo El Estigma (tr: “Stigmatized”) and No Tenemos Miedo (tr: “We Are Not Afraid”), two Salvadoran short films that uplift the experiences of youth and environmental activists in El Salvador.

This film showcase and discussion will highlight the power of Salvadoran youth who use creative expression to shed light on their experiences. Bajo El Estigma is a film created by El Kolectivo San Jacinto, a youth media collective from El Salvador that works to create opportunities for themselves and other youth to serve as transformative alternatives to violence in marginalized and criminalized communities in El Salvador.

The film No Tenemos Miedo tells the story of the powerful victory of Salvadorans in their fight against transnational gold mining corporations, a recent victory which highlights the revolutionary power of the Salvadoran people. El Salvador is the first and only country in the world to pass a national ban on metallic mining and the fight to get there cost rural communities the lives of beloved leaders who were killed in the struggle to save the country’s water from contamination from the metallic mining industry.

This film screening will be donation based to benefit El Kolectivo San Jacinto and other Salvadoran organizations fighting to save the country’s water (Suggested donation $5 – $15)
